THERE is talk that Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo may run for governor of Camarines Sur instead of gunning for the presidency. And if I were her, I would definitely opt for the local position.

The reason is simple. She has a higher chance of winning as provincial governor than as president. At least in Camarines Sur, she has a fighting chance against a candidate from the Villafuerte clan. With incumbent Gov. Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte termed out and his father Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte expected to run for reelection in the province’s second congressional district, she would most likely face a newbie from the Villafuerte clan, probably Vincenzo Luis “Luigi” Villafuerte, Migz’s younger brother and current provincial administrator.
