COTABATO CITY: One person was killed and 15 others were arrested in an anti-crime sweep in Lanao del Sur on Friday. Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Command commander, in a statement, said, “Operating troops conducted three consecutive operations at Sitio Kabaturan, Barangay Miculabo, Picong, Lanao del Sur to serve search warrants against armed lawless group personalities identified as Kareem Usop Abedin, Camar Mauyag and Emen Parte.” A firefight resulted in the death of Abedin, apprehension of his seven cohorts, wounding of three policemen and recovery of pieces of evidence. Another operation against Parte followed, but the target was able to escape. Eight of his men were arrested. Mauyag also escaped in the third operation. Seized during the sweep were one caliber 56 Colt M16A1 rifle, one Elisco M16A1 rifle, one Barret rifle, one hand grenade, three motorcycles, 23 sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia.
