Pandemic as the catalyst for better mobility (Part 2)

The key point from last week’s column was that the pandemic has revealed many fundamental weaknesses in our mobility environment — especially deficiencies linked to inappropriate or outdated policies and institutions. The good news is that these problems can be fixed — most needed are vision and tenacity.

The challenges are huge, but we need to dream big. The goal should be to deliver by 2030 a world-class mobility environment in all Philippine cities. Public transportation, walking and cycling should be the preferred travel modes, even for people who own cars or motorcycles. These sustainable transportation modes should enable safe, convenient, low emission, efficient and reliable transportation for Filipinos of all income classes and physical abilities.
