THE Earth Day celebration was marked with the historic tree planting in the denuded forests of Samar Island Natural Park in Barangay San Rafael, Taft, Eastern Samar on Friday. Some 3,000 various species of trees were planted during the well-attended event, organized by Taft Hydro Energy. Operations anager Lucille Jonathan Gabinas said the activity was committed by the firm’s owner, Benjie Picardo, a native of Dolores, Eastern Samar. About 76 hectares will be reforested. Present during the tree planting were Public Works Eastern Samar District Engineer Margarita Junia, Drug Enforcement 8 Regional Director Gilbert Buenafe and Maj. Ben Bugarin of the 52nd Infantry Battalion, among others.
