UNHRC Sri Lanka resolution seen as intrusive intervention

SYDNEY: A landmark UN Human Rights Council resolution that establishes a powerful new accountability process to collect, analyze and preserve evidence of international crimes committed in Sri Lanka for use in future prosecutions, has been opposed not just by the Colombo government, but also by other governments and parliamentarians from other countries.

Resolution 46/1, adopted by the vote at the UNHRC in Geneva on March 23, 2021, has been criticized as a “gross intrusion” into the sovereignty of a state.
