FROM the Science and Technology secretary comes this piece of good news. Several cube satellites were successfully deployed into Earth’s orbit from the International Space Station (ISS) on March 14, 2021. The satellites that were deployed were Tsuru from Japan, Maya-2 from the Philippines and Paraguay’s GuaraniSat-1. These satellites were developed under the BIRDS-4 Project, short for Joint Global Multi-Nation Birds Satellite Project.
The launching of the cube satellites was the result of a two-year collaboration between the Laboratory of Spacecraft Environment Interaction Engineering (La SEINE), the Kyushu Institute of Technology, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST), the University of the Philippines, Mapua Institute of Technology and Adamson University. Paraguay’s Space Agency (AEP), Centro para el Dessarollo de la Investigacion Cientifica (CEDIC), and Polytechnic Faculty of the National University of Asunción (FP-UNA) were likewise participants of the program.
