PHILIPPINE National Police chief Debold Sinas is under fire for allegedly scolding a Lumad student after she invoked her Miranda rights , saying that this "was the start of her path to becoming a member of the communist New People's Army (NPA) [and] that they will start fighting each other in the mountains in 10-15 years”.
Sinas' statement was contained in the records of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which was cited by Cebu City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 20 Judge Leah Geraldez on March 11. She ordered the immediate release of the 16-yar-old Lumad student and her return to the custody of her father who filed the petition for a writ of habeas corpus.
