SINGLE EMPLOYEES GIVEN PAID LEAVE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

GEN. LUNA, Quezon: All single and available employees of the local government of this town will have a chance to “search for their forever” on February 11, a regular workday, by filing a leave of absence with pay, according to Mayor Matt Florido. Living up to his moniker of “mayor with a heart” and to his town’s image of being the “heart” of Quezon's Third District, Florido allowed all single employees “to have a me time for themselves” on Thursday next week instead of the customary flowers and chocolates. The municipal local government has 44 employees with single status, including widows, widowers and single parents. Florido told The Manila Times that he will shoulder the daily wage of the 19 contractual employees because they have “no work, no pay” status. The millennial mayor said his salary for February 15 will be utilized for their pay and no government fund will be used. He said the single employees just need to file a leave of absence, and they can spend February 11 to “look for their forever.” Being single himself, Florido added that he can relate to his employees and wants them to have “a shot at a decent love life.”
