CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental: Family members, relatives, friends and members of the local government officials on Tuesday held a commemorative Mass in memory of those who died in the passenger airplane crash in the mountains of Claveria, Misamis Oriental 23 years ago. All the 104 passengers, including the 11 flight crew, perished when the Cagayan de Oro-bound Flight 387 of Cebu Pacific Air crashed on Mount Lumot, a remote rainforest near the town of Claveria in the afternoon of February 2, 1998. Also on Tuesday, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano also officially announced the opening of the Misamis Oriental Tourism and Botanical Garden in the village of Sibulig, bordering the component City of Gingoog and the town of Claveria, the site of the Shrine dedicated to all who died in the plane crash. The local government marked the site with a Shrine Marker because some relatives of the plane crash victims have made a yearly visit there. The 20-meter-tall Shrine marker was constructed during the incumbency of former governor Antonio Calingin 20 years ago.
