Just a week before Christmas last year, the Philippines got its first app-enabled bike and e-scooter sharing service. Luckily for us, it rolled out in Bonifacio Global City where our Metro Manila headquarters are located, giving Deloittees an easy opportunity to try this innovation, which is already a popular transportation option in many major cities around the world.
During this pandemic, we have seen an increase in the use of bicycles and scooters as public transport ground to a halt due to lockdown measures. But even when public utility vehicles were eventually allowed to once again ply their routes, many Filipinos continued using their bikes, no doubt because it is more cost-efficient and also because it is safer: you are less likely to catch the coronavirus pedaling your one-passenger vehicle in open air than sharing an airconditioned bus with several strangers.
