MEXICO CITY: The global death toll from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) topped 2 million on Friday (Saturday in Manila), crossing the threshold amid a vaccine rollout so immense but so uneven that in some countries there is real hope of vanquishing the outbreak, while in others, less-developed parts of the world, it seems a far-off dream.
As of 6:25 p.m. Friday (6:25 a.m. in Manila, Saturday), at least 2,000,066 people worldwide had been confirmed dead of the virus that first emerged in Wuhan, China in late 2019, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) tally.
