LUCENA CITY, Quezon: Boxes of assorted firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices worth P130,000 were seized by the police here on Thursday morning. The confiscation was in accordance with the implementation of Republic Act (RA) 7183, “An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devices.” Maj. Gaylor Pagala, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Quezon Intelligence Unit identified the owner of the firecrackers as Lonily Enriquez, 62, businesswoman and resident of Barangay Market View in this city. Pagala said the operation was conducted with a team from PNP Lucena at 11.30 a.m. at Vio-Let Store in Barangay 9, resulting in the arrest of the owner and the confiscation of the firecrackers. The city government of Lucena has not issued a single permit for selling of firecrackers, thus identifying Enriquez as conducting an illegal business, said Pagala. Enriquez is under the custody of PNP Lucena while a criminal complaint for violation of RA 7183 is being prepared for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Lucena City.
