WITH the Covid-19 pandemic presenting businesses everywhere with a slew of unprecedented challenges and unceremoniously launching the world into the new normal, human resources (HR) has had to step up like never before. After all, in an era where working from home has become the norm virtually overnight and face-to-face meetings are replaced with Zoom and Google meets, it’s part of HR’s duty to ensure that employees stay connected and continue working as normally as possible.
Of course, the transition has been easy for no one. HR was already a field fraught with challenges even before the pandemic: in 2019 alone, over half of HR leaders reported struggling with ensuring employees had the necessary skills to compete in an increasingly digitized workplace. In 2020, this task takes on an increased sense of urgency that would’ve been unimaginable just a year ago.
