The year 2020 is nearing its conclusion. Recalling what transpired this year has been quite disheartening. It started with Taal’s big bang, followed by numerous earthquakes, the Covid-19 pandemic and a series of typhoons. Unsurprisingly, we all want the year to be over. Many are hopeful that 2021 would usher in a turnaround. Still, uncertainty remains. A popular quote on social media sums up 2020 as a year not to get what we want, but to appreciate what we have.

Many of our plans did not materialize. My planned trips here and abroad were either shortened and canceled. Social gatherings turned into online meetups, and work and schooling shifted to digital. But the saddest consequence of this year is seeing a lot of people, not just in the Philippines, but around the world, losing their jobs and homes. Some even lost their lives.
