FIRST Glory Apparel, a garment exporting firm in the Mactan Economic Zone laid off 300 employees on Friday, reasoning that the coronavirus disease had a dire impact on product sales.
In a statement on behalf of the dismissed workers, Partido Manggagawa-Cebu claimed the layoffs were unjustified because orders were still coming in, indicating that the “reasoning” was just the management’s excuse to replace regular employees with contractual workers; thereby cutting costs on regular benefits.
