The country’s toll operators are now prepared to implement cashless transactions by December 1, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) said on Wednesday. In a virtual briefing, TRB Executive Director Abraham Sales said toll plazas were “100-percent ready” to transition to such transactions as the government pushes for the electronic collection of payments to lessen the risk of coronavirus infection. “We are 100-percent ready to implement cashless transactions. Our toll plazas are ready,” he said, adding that “more than 3.2 million have already installed their RFID (radio frequency identification) stickers.” He also noted that toll concessionaires made the assurance that they could install 30,000 stickers a day. Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), operator of the North Luzon, Subic-Clark-Tarlac, Manila-Cavite, C5 Link and Cavite-Laguna expressways, already installed about 1.5 million RFID stickers. Romulo Quimbo Jr., MPTC communications chief, said the company only needed to install an additional 250,000 stickers to meet targets.
