DONALD Trump, we are told by the United States press, is history — unless, of course, he is elected back to office at a later time. Derided by many as one of the “worst” presidents the US has ever had, I do not really understand why.

I saw him — from an ocean away — as a leader who attempted to return the values of the Founding Fathers, religion and belief in a Being who is high above the stupidity and pettiness of that rudderless nation. But this, apparently, did not sit well with the freedom-loving Americans. Did I say “freedom”? Anyway, the American people (or the electoral college!) have made their choice, for better or worse. So, America is Blue once more and that leaves us wondering — worrying even — about what that means for things over our troubled waters, the West Philippine Sea. Trump had no interest in currying favor with Xi Jinping, a person I am not very fond of myself. Democrats, for their part, seem to “let things run their course” this side of the world. So, what do these developments augur for the West Philippine Sea issue?
