There are not many films in the Ilonggo or Filipino gothic genre — I would file the film, “Yanggaw” by director Richard Somes in that category. It’s perfect viewing for this time of year. It’s not particularly gory or nightmarish, but the story has a very real feel, and beyond being scary, director Richard Somes has come up with something haunting.
I regret having missed it when it was released in December 2008. I am so glad it’s currently available for free on YouTube, though you’ll have to deal with ads popping up to undo the momentum of your viewing.
