Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. continues to cement its position in the telecommunications industry by seeking to invest in the small cell network business. In a statement on Wednesday, the infrastructure arm of listed Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc. (AEV) said this new venture would complement its common tower business and support telco carriers’ target to ramp up their network deployment amid the coronavirus pandemic. It described a small cell network as “a series of small low-powered, short-ranged antennas that provide coverage and capacity, meant to work in conjunction with macro cell towers.” Aboitiz InfraCapital said it could contribute to the development of Fifth Generation (5G) technology in the Philippines, which has also been the focus of dominant telco players PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc. AEV shares finished flat at P89 each on Wednesday.
