A magnitude 5 earthquake rocked Davao Oriental late Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The epicenter was recorded 54 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental at 11:25 a.m. With a depth of 118 kilometers, Phivolcs chief Undersecretary Renato Solidum told The Manila Times that the quake was tectonic in origin. He said damage was not expected, but aftershocks may occur. The quake would not cause a tsunami, the Phivolcs chief assured.
