BAGUIO CITY: The local government’s efforts to revitalize the Summer Capital’s environment are gaining headway with the issuance of notices of violation to those behind some 683 structures that were found to have allegedly encroached on the prescribed easement of waterways. Stephen Capuyan, an engineer from the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO), reported that these structures were found to have gone beyond the 3-meter easement of waterways. Six-hundred-thirteen houses and buildings were found along the stretch of the Sagudin-Balili River while 70 structures were located along the Bued River. The city’s aggressive campaign against the proliferation of illegal structures along its waterways is anchored on revitalizing the city’s environment. Under the notice of violation, owners of illegal structures were given at least seven days to voluntarily demolish improvements that they introduced to the easement. Aside from encroachment on the easement of waterways, the CBAO is also monitoring other illegal structures in different parts of the city to ensure compliance with pertinent provisions of Presidential Decree 1096 or the “National Building Code.”
