The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision to declare certain anticompetitive regulations in the implementation of the Contractors’ License Law as unlawful, saying it would level the playing field for local and foreign companies in initiating construction projects in the Philippines.

In a statement on Tuesday, the state competition watchdog said before the high court invalidated the nationality requirement in the licensing rules set by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB), regular licenses for multiple projects annually were reserved only for local firms while foreign contractors were only granted a special license for every project.
