Local banks may need to step up their game in terms of digital capability to compete with their online rivals, according to S&P Global Ratings.

In a report on Thursday, the New York-headquarterd credit rating agency said digital banks might “redefine the Philippine banking industry” on the back of youthful demographics, a large untapped market, low costs and regulatory latitude.
