Enhancing sustainability goals with Laudato Si’

The next 10 years have been named the “Decade of Action,” during which the foundation would be laid to achieving sustainable development and increased resilience through the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It could not have come at a more appropriate time, with the world facing multiple crises, such as the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic and climate change.

However, a recent UN report reveals that the world is not on track to achieve those goals. The Philippines faces significant challenges in achieving 14 of the 17 SDGs, especially on promoting good health and nutrition, sustainable industries and infrastructure, reducing inequalities, and protecting peace and justice. Improvements are especially needed on its programs to promote high-quality education and biodiversity conservation.
