Isabel Sandoval’s “Lingua Franca” came highly recommended. Two incredible US-based Filipina filmmakers, Marie Jamora and Clarissa de los Reyes gave it praise when it was recently released on Netflix.

According to Variety magazine, it is the “first film directed by and starring a trans woman to screen in competition” at the Venice International Film Festival. After that, it was acquired by Ava Duvernay’s ARRAY for distribution last year. The film and its auteur have received favorable write ups from the LA Times, New York Times, Time magazine, Rolling Stone, Hollywood Reporter, Vulture and Refinery 29 to name a few significant publications and sites.
