THE Court of Appeals (CA) stood firm on its ruling that convicted journalist Maria Ressa cannot leave the country as it denied her motion for reconsideration to be allowed to travel to the United States because of prior commitments.
In a Resolution of the CA Special 14th Division, headed by Justice Danton Bueser, it said that while Ressa, chief executive officer of the news website Rappler, has the constitutional right to travel, she is now convicted of a criminal case and her liberty relies only on her bail "which operates as a valid restriction on her right to travel." Justice Geraldine Fiel-Macaraig and Justice Carlito Calpatura are members of the 14th division.
