BACOLOD CITY: The police escorts of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo have been recalled as part of the realignment program of police personnel of the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) response to affected areas in Central Visayas. About 30 police security escorts detailed to elected and appointed government officials in Negros Oriental have already been recalled in compliance with the order of PRO 7. Col. Arnel Banzon, officer in charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), said all of them were accounted for. BGen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, Central Visayas police director, said in a statement that the move was their way of addressing the vacuum caused by the recent recall of augmented personnel from the Special Action Force and PROs 6 and 8 by their respective units. The Norppo sent 50 policemen to Cebu to help local police in the enforcement of strict measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The move to recall of police escorts of elected and appointed officials in Negros Oriental comes after reports from the Presidential Task Force on Media Security that MSg. Reuel Pinero, a member of Norppo who reportedly holds the key to solving the killing of radio broadcaster Rex Cornelio Pepino in Dumaguete City, is allegedly missing.
