BACOLOD CITY: Two alleged child rebels were rescued while a suspected rebel was arrested by government troops in separate clashes in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental on August 14. The military, however, withheld the identities of the two recruits, both girls. Lt. Col. Melvin Flores, chief of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion, identified the suspect as Rennel Remasog, 20, of Barangay Luz, Guihulngan City, an alleged member of the Leonardo Panaligan Command of the New People’s Army (NPA), who faces attempted murder charges. Guihulngan Mayor Jorge Joan Reyes denounced the rebel movement for hiring minors. Juanito Magbanua, NPA spokesman, however, labeled the Guihulngan encounters as fake news.
