THE good news from Cebu City — the country’s coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) hotspot in mid-June — is the declining daily count of new infections.

From August 8 to 14, the daily average was 24 new confirmed cases. A month earlier the corresponding figure was 82 and further back — in the last week of June — it was an average of 148 new cases a day, all figures based on Department of Health Central Visayas’ (DoH-7) daily releases.
