American physician and writer Oliver Wendell Holmes said “I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving. To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it. But we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.”
That is the seafarer’s adage. Fate, however, intervened. The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic happened. The world stopped moving. And we now find ourselves drifting or lying at anchor; unable to forge ahead. It is not a pleasant condition to be in, even figuratively. Imagine how our seafarers must be feeling as they drift or lie at anchor literally; yet continue to work amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
