In my June 24 column, I wrote about Pope Francis’ message of thanks and hope to seafarers, expressing appreciation for continuing to facilitate the delivery of essential goods amid the global pandemic and reminding them that they are not alone.

That missive was followed by a message from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), exhorting our seafarers to keep a steady eye on their vision and stay on course in the face of difficulties: “We set our sights on the shore, on our port.” The pastoral letter issued for International Day of the Seafarer last June 25, also reminded them to keep the faith and believe that God will prevail.
