REACTING to my article two columns ago (“How Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. got to enjoy the last laugh” The Manila Times, June 20, 2020), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) chief emailed me a lengthy clarification which actually reveals a long-held secret regarding the SAF 44 massacre.
Readers will recall that on Jan. 25, 2015, all but one of 45 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos of the Philippine National Police perished in a one-sided battle with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) terrorists in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
