International associations on maritime trade and logistics are pushing for the digitalization of port communities across the world to establish electronic commerce and data exchange in the face of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic that constrains personal interaction in businesses.

Ten associations led by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) stated the urgent need for intergovernmental organizations, governments and industry stakeholders concerned with maritime trade and logistics to accelerate the pace of digitalization “[in order] that physical and data interactions occur in a safe, secure, efficient and overall sustainable manner”.
