“WHY call him boss?” A friend messaged me when I posted “Paalam, Boss,” announcing the death of Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Murphy Cojuangco Jr., who died on June 16, 2020, on my Facebook page. “He is a Marcos crony who stole millions, maybe billions from poor coconut farmers,” referring to the coco levy fund scam that hounded him for the rest of his life.

I will not add to that discussion; you can find it somewhere else. I leave it to those who are more knowledgeable about this case. Danding also answered these allegations in the many opportunities he was given. Needless to say, Danding was a giant, who, for good and for bad, impacted ordinary Filipinos. A controversial figure in politics who was also beloved because he took on causes that have always been neglected, like the plight of Philippine athletes and sports. He was instrumental in strengthening San Miguel as an international brand as its chairman.
