CEBU City tops the country in terms of number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, with about 3,500 as of mid-June. New cases have exceeded 100 each day for over a week, prompting concern that the city would revert to the dreaded enhanced community quarantine status after a couple of weeks under general community quarantine.
The Department of Health Central Visayas and Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella have assured the public that the higher number of new cases does not represent a “spike” in infections. Rather, it is the result of a backlog in processing tests, mostly from contact tracing.
