Ibarra Gutierrez, spokesman for the Office of the Vice President, has welcomed Task Force Bangon Marawi Secretary Eduardo del Rosario’s update on government actions, but maintained that efforts for full rehabilitation of Marawi City were lacking. “We appreciate the update ongoing actions by the national government on the rebuilding of Marawi. We do not doubt that action was taken; the question is, and has always been, whether that action is sufficient and timely enough,” Gutierrez said. He added, “More than a thousand days have passed since the siege began and, still, many of our fellow Filipinos whose lives were disrupted by this catastrophe continue to await a full restoration of their homes and livelihoods.” Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo’s statement on the third year of the commencement of the Marawi siege is “simply a reminder that thousands of Filipinos need the government to do better for them,” Gutierrez said. In her statement on the anniversary of the Marawi siege on Saturday, Robredo called out the government’s “inaction and neglect in Marawi” for three years. “We call on all concerned agencies to accelerate their actions while exercising full transparency. Marawi is not merely a tragedy to be remembered; it is an ongoing problem that needs to be solved,” she said.
