NOT a single anti-discrimination violator was apprehended in Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela) during the lockdown, reports said. Mayors Tobias Tiangco of Navotas, Rex Gatchalian of Valenzuela, Oscar Malapitan of Caloocan and Antolin Oreta 3rd of Malabon were elated upon learning of this development since the entire Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) on March 17 prompted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. “The Camanava people have realized that it would not do anything good if they discriminate against others, especially our frontliners and Covid-19 patients at this time when all of us must be united in battling an unseen enemy,” Tiangco said. Gatchalian said this could be because the local government units had passed curfew hours, stay home and stay sober ordinances, among others. Malapitan and Oreta said the massive information drive they exerted with the help of the mainstream media and social media helped to make people aware about the anti-discrimination measures. Malabon police chief Col. Jessie Tamayao told The Manila Times that they conducted house-to-house drive to ensure the people were made aware of the ordinances that were passed amid the ECQ. Navotas residents, however, who at had violated home quarantine ordinance numbered 2,147. Of the number, 1,483 were adults and 664, minors. In Valenzuela, city police chief Col. Fernando Ortega said their stay home ordinance had 2, 334 violators; social distancing ordinance, 721; stay sober ordinance, 320; and wear-your-face mask ordinance, 944.
