Magnitude 6.2 earthquake rocks Batanes with no damage

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit Basco town in the island province of Batanes on Saturday at 12:44 a.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Ignacio Villa, Batanes acting governor, said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported no damage but continues to conduct an assessment. The Phivolcs said intensity four was felt in Basco and Itbayat towns in Batanes province; intensity three was felt in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan province and Luna town in Apayao province; intensity two was felt in Laoag City and Pasuquin town in Ilocos Norte; and intensity one was felt in Vigan City in Ilocos Sur. The Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic.
