PHNOM PEHN: Cambodian Justice Minister Ang Vong Vathana has led a meeting to review requests for pardons or sentence reductions from 399 prisoners, including 43 women, to coincide with the Khmer New Year. Kim Santepheap, Justice Ministry spokesman, said that Vong Vathana, chairman of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Prisoners met with representatives of relevant institutions to consider the requests on Thursday evening. “The requests were raised by the directors of 22 municipal and provincial prisons and also four correctional centres,” he said, adding that some of the prisoners requested a sentence reduction or pardon based on their good behavior while serving their sentences.
