Part 1 - Three identities

HUMAN resource management (HRM) is the management of man, of human beings, of people. Unlike machines, man can reason out and does possess feelings. Like machines, however, man can be worn out. What does HRM do? Would HRM fit in spare parts to make the machine work or junk this worn-out employee like plastic bottles to kingdom come? When the HRM office takes into account the capacity of employees, and if the assessment is below par in executing their jobs, how does the HRM office inform employees of their assessment without the employees losing their dignity? In any case, whether the assessment is satisfactory or not, does the HRM office keep in mind that employees are people? That they can feel, think and act? As one writer commented, employees are people; they cannot be “shifted or altered like a template in a room layout.”
