SADANGA, Mountain Province: The municipal government said local officials have never promoted tourism in the municipality by banking on the alleged marijuana trade. Mayor Gabino Ganggangan said the Bontoc-Tinglayan-Tabuk area has become a good cover for the allegedly lucrative trade but it should not be the way to promote tourism in Sadanga. He pointed out that many of the local and foreign tourists who had been apprehended by authorities for allegedly carrying and transporting marijuana were on their way home from the town. A syndicate from Metro Manila, the mayor said, employs minors as marijuana couriers. For the past several decades, the Cordillera has been known to be the major producer of high-grade marijuana being traded in various parts of the country.
