AS the government is looking for possible protein sources amid cases of African swine fever (ASF) in the country affecting pigs, the World Animal Protection (WAP) is encouraging the Department of Agriculture (DA) to also consider plant-based protein sources, citing health and environmental benefits.

”The move from DA to look at alternative sources of protein is a welcome move, but it should not be limited to looking at other meat sources, but include plant-based protein sources,” Vince Cinches, WAP global campaign manager for farming, said in a statement on Thursday.
