The Philippine basketball team that saw action when the sport was played for the first time in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games had earned the admiration of fans and foes alike because of their decency and gentlemanly conduct showed on and off the court.
Most of the players were pulled out from the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas and National University – the Big 3 of the local basketball scene formed later to become members, too, of the student leagues NCAA and UAAP.
