THE world has been rocked by rapidly escalating events in the Middle East triggered by a United States decapitation strike on January 2 that killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, a dead ringer for Sean Connery (no pun intended). Soleimani headed the Quds Force; organized and patronized Iran’s terror networks in the Middle East; and was high on Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s power ladder. Earlier, in the last days of December 2019, Soleimani’s surrogates in Iraq besieged the US embassy in Baghdad, bringing back bitter memories of Benghazi. The US used as justification for its drone strike of Soleimani his decades-long terror rampage in the Middle East, and that something big was “imminent.”
