BACOLOD CITY: Sugar industry stakeholders point the blame at the high cost of shipping in the Philippines for the expensive sugar in the domestic market.
In a dialogue with Sen. Cynthia Villar and Finance Assistant Secretary Antonio Lambino at the Associacion de Agricultores de La Carlota y Pontevedra Inc. (AALCPI) office in La Carlota City, Gerard Joseph Sarrosa of Tatak Kalamay said the freight cost from Bangkok, Thailand to Cebu of a 40-footer container is P52,000 and from Bacolod City to Manila is P72,822.
