Several news organizations have obtained video that appears to show a missile being fired into the Tehran sky and striking an object, around the same time that a Ukrainian plane crashed just after taking off from the city’s airport.

In this file handout photo provided by the Iranian news agency IRNA on January 8, 2020, rescue teams work at the scene of a Ukrainian airliner that crashed shortly after take-off near Imam Khomeini airport in the Iranian capital Tehran. US officials believe that Iran accidentally shot down the Ukrainian airliner, killing all of the 176 people on board, US media reported on January 9, 2020. Newsweek, CBS and CNN quoted unnamed officials saying they are increasingly confident that Iranian air defense systems accidentally downed the aircraft, based on satellite, radar and electronic data.
