Police and military forces have placed Central Mindanao on heightened alert following reports of possible wide-scale hostilities to be carried out by Islamic State (IS) sympathizers Dawah Islamiya and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF).

A ranking officer of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Dawah Islamiya and the BIFF have long been joining forces to carry out terror attacks in Mindanao.
