CAMP MELCHOR DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela: A Philippine Army corporal who was acclaimed a hero during the Marawi siege last year was killed and two other soldiers were injured when a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels clashed with government troops in the mountains of Barangay Villa Rey, Echague town, on Saturday afternoon, the military said.
Killed was Corporal Adonis Galera of Pinukpuk, Kalinga, and injured were Cpl. Harold Ganagan of Tinglayan, Kalinga, and Cpl. Fajardo Manuel of Paracelis, Mountain Province, according to Maj. Noriel Tayaban, the Army’s 5th Infantry Division spokesman.
