The beginnings. Regine Velasquez began intense vocal training sessions with her father as early as 1976. Among the first songs she learned was Sharon Cuneta’s “Mr. DJ.” She placed third in “The Tita Betty’s Children Show,” which was the first of many singing competitions she would join.
