“LIWAYWAY” (international name “Lingling”) intensified into a severe tropical storm on Tuesday, the state-run weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) last spotted Liwayway at 250 kilometers east-northeast of Calayan, Cagayan. It gained strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph. It was moving north-northwest and slowed down from 20 kph to 10 kph.
